Mark is the founder of IP Networks LTD and he has overall responsibility for the company.

Mark has 35 years experience in the specification, technical design, development, procurement and delivery of data communications solutions, with some having both national and global impact.

Mark studied Computer Science at University in the 80’s, and majored on Computer Networking, Operating Systems and Software Development. He also contributed regularly to computing magazines.

His first job after University was with Digital (now HPE), and he was part of the group that first implemented Ethernet and invented the Spanning-Tree Protocol. He worked on a world-leading implementation of an open-standards application stack, which could be used to develop various applications including X.509 security. He then promoted a subsequent leading X.500 implementation (which included LDAP) that was adopted by US/UK government projects for military messaging and by Netscape to implement secure browsing for the first time.

He supplied specialist technology (DWDM, ATM/DSL and later MPLS tools) to different vendors (Marconi, Fujitsu and later Cisco) who were developing equipment for BT, to build BT's core fibre backbone, and the UK-wide broadband access network.

Then during 10 years working for Virgin Media he secured government funding to upgrade college Internet feeds nationally. Within Virgin, he established a technical and commercial model for JISC regional networks which now deliver high speed Internet to Universities, Colleges and Local Authority Schools across the UK (and were first enabled by that funding). He also oversaw the provision of other bespoke networking services into other Public Sector organisations.

He worked for several years with leading Cisco/Aruba partners to provide both wired and wireless network solutions into large Public Sector organisations. On these projects he noticed that there is a big difference between the 'plug-and-play' marketing that is pitched by Wi-Fi equipment manufacturers and the pre-requisites of reliable, high-performance and easy to manage Wi-Fi.

So, in 2017 IP Networks LTD was formed to take full advantage of recent developments in the performance of Wi-Fi technology, to help our clients develop robust strategies to deliver exceptional, reliable, high-performance Wi-Fi.
